DOCKER ON MAC SOUND FOR MAC
“Docker Desktop for Mac will let you do everything you’ve been able to do on a Mac already, and you’ll be able to do it faster and with less noise.”ĭocker Desktop for Mac release extends Docker’s leadership in supporting developer choice no matter the architecture. “To the many developers eager to know if they can use the latest Macs as a dev machine with Docker, the wait is over,” said Docker Captain Ajeet Singh Raina. This consists of UIs, CLIs and APIs that are engineered to work together across the entire app delivery lifecycle, along with the nearly 90,000 Arm-based images, including Docker Official Images, available on Docker Hub. Docker offers a comprehensive and integrated end-to-end experience that delights and empowers developers, without limiting their choices of ecosystem tools and clouds. With nearly 45,000 installs of the tech preview, developers using Docker Desktop for Mac find it to be faster and quieter and just as easy to get up and running in minutes where they can rapidly code, test and collaborate while ensuring consistency between development and production environments.
“This marks an expansion of the broader developer universe that extends Docker Desktop into the Mac’s custom silicon where they can write powerful applications.” “This is great news for the many developers who have been clamoring for Docker Desktop for Macs with Apple Silicon,” said Docker Chief Technology Officer Justin Cormack. – Ap– Docker, Inc.™, today announced general availability of its much-anticipated Docker Desktop for Mac, enabling developers to leverage the advantages of the latest Macs powered by the M1 chip and extending the reach of their Docker collaborative application development platform to a new architecture. Dell with almost the same CPU as MBP and Ubuntu: 3-4sĪlso, I read that docker for M1 uses different virtualization - what about I/O speed? And also, will be 16 GB RAM enough? For MBP is enough, there is no info about low membory, but MBP has Radeon card and when I use external display (4K scaled to 2560x1440px), it uses different memory.Īlso, I read that docker for M1 uses different virtualization - what about I/O speed? On normal Macs is terrible slow in comparsion to native docker. Right now thinking about buing something with M1 (or wait for M1X/M2) - Air, Pro, or maybe just Mac Mini, because I have external display (24" 4K), apple keyboard + magic trackpad, so it's also good and cheaper option.
I sync all files using mutagen and it works fine, but sometimes have some issues. To speed up docker and lighten Mac, I bought small (13"), old, refurbished Dell notebook with 2 cores / 4 threads, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD and use it with Ubuntu as "server machine". I work on big web app (php + vue + some databases etc) and I/O is slow, also, notebook is just loud when I work with docker + IDE (phpstorm/webstorm) + browser + some tools. Hey! Right now I use with i7 + 16GB + 256GB and it's pretty nice, but docker is slow, very slow.
